"I had to pull this stuff out of the back. Could you tell by my shoulder pads?" the assistant coach asked in the dressing room afterward, laughing heartily and soaked from the effort. "I was telling the guys: 'I really didn't look like this when I played.'
"I didn't think we'd have many bodies on the ice today and honestly, I still love playing. I thought I'd just throw an extra body out there and make them all look better."
It's been four-plus years since Muller played the last of his 1,349 NHL games. He distinguished himself in Montreal from 1991-95, the team captain during his final season here. Muller turned his No. 11 over to the incoming Koivu when he was traded to the New York Islanders in April 1995.
Yesterday, associate coach and former teammate Doug Jarvis had Muller among those practising. The group included goalies Cristobal Huet and Carey Price, defencemen Josh Gorges, Francis Bouillon and Mark Streit, and forwards Tomas Plekanec, Steve Bégin, Tom Kostopoulos, Andrei Kostitsyn, Garth Murray, Mikhail Grabovski and Kyle Chipchura. |
Muller goes on to single out Dandenault, Kovalev, and Markov for their strong contributions to the team so far. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."
