Wasn't calling out the fans, though I see how my words could have been construed as such. I'll be more careful in the future, especially in other fora...

Four viciously dirty hits. Four players seriously injured. This has to stop. Fine the owner, fine the GM, suspend the coach, and suspend the player involved. Start taking draft picks. I don't care, something has to be done, because if anyone sues the league right now they are SO vicariously liable it isn't even funny...

Hartnell should have done more to get out of the way, but as usual it's not as simple as all that, because he was already coming at Alberts with speed when Alberts dropped to his knees. Some kind of impact was inevitable (you can also see Hartnell slamming on the brakes). I don't believe (thoughI suspect Razz will) that he was purposely going after his head.

Some suspension is fair, because like I say it doesn't look like he tried hard enough to avoid a vulnerable player. But to say it's pure malice is a huge conclusion to jump to.

Can't see how he let up as he claims. He had plenty of time to let that one go.

Awkward play, but obviously showing the "lack of respect" that players have for each other at this point.

Hartnell has no idea how to throw a friggin hit. Remember the knee-on-knee with Cheechoo in last year's playoffs? It didn't look malicious, he just blatantly led the hit with his knee.

Slamming on the brakes? No, not exactly "slamming" but he looks to at least be slowing down a bit. Nonetheless it warrants a suspension, however short, it is not okay to be careless and reckless, I don't believe there was intent to injure, just perhaps Hartnell trying a little too hard to inject some energy into the game.

And I agree w/Razz...while I'd stop short of actually punishing the Flyboys, something needs to be said to them by the NHL brass. Four questionable hits now, there will come a time when you can't just chalk it up to coincidence.

Or he could just be turning to make the hit side-first instead of front.

I don't say he tried to hit Alberts in the head; I do say that any suggestion that he did anything other than try to finish a check is ludicrous. Moreover, Alberts was so obviously vulnerable that even Jeremy Witherspoon could have slowed up. Hartnell didn't. Just another Bruin concussion, just another 2 game suspension.

http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins/articles/2007/11/28/hartnell_suspended_two_games/

Chiarelli feels the hit and suspension were both bullshit. Boston area commentators are calling the hit vicious, and rightly so...
