The last time Nolan saw his award, it was in a cardboard box that he threw down the basement steps. He has never looked at it since.

I wouldn't either.

It was said he was even showing up drunk for practice.

I call bullshit. Of all the rumors going around about Nolan here this was not one of them. I can't stand when he tries to act like he was innocent in this situation. Racism? Give me a break. He's situation with the Sabres had nothing to do with racism. It had to do with ego.

Muckler = BIG ego

Nolan = BIG ego

Hasek = HUGE ego

They all wanted to be in control. It caused splits among the players and all three of them are to blame.

Whatever happened in Buffalo, my point was that a fat lotta good that trophy did him. And I liked the article because it showed how hard he had to work to get where he is today.

And my point had nothing to do with your point. I was commenting on some thing else entirely.

Good article, thanks for posting.

Whatever happened in Buffalo, Nolan is a guy who's tough not to cheer for, having been through a lot both personally and professionally. I'm sure he brought some of it on himself, but the fact that the post-Sabre days remain such a mystery obviously mean that his career path wasn't a normal one.

Make no mistake, if he were coaching the Rangers rather than the Islanders, I wouldn't be cheering for him. Laughing But I like the fact he's brought respect to the NYI despite everyone ridiculing them. There's something very Disney movie about it, I guess, and the potential was there for disaster when the team went through so many un-promising offseason moves last summer. I'd love to see this team do well, even if it means cheering for guys like Bill Guerin and Mike Comrie...

I'd say racism has a lot to do with that rumor he showed up drunk to practice, though.

I could see him after finally getting a job, learning about the Snow and then DiPietro signing....

"DAMN YOU MIGHTY GITCHE MANITOU!!!!"

.... after the Yashin buyout....

"Okay. Nevermind. Thanks be to You."
